Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and seven other Democrats rushed through the spending bill of the Obama administration in order to make their plane to Italy. Wednesday, the Pope reinforced the laws of Karma.
Pope Benedict XVI told Pelosi that "Catholic politicians and legislators cannot back abortion rights", according to WELT ONLINE. Pelosi is often on the receiving end of critism from U.S. bishops for her personal interreptation of Catholic doctrine.
"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural and moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death..."a Vatican statement said."
"It said such teaching "enjoins all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men of goodwill in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development," it said."
Reads like a direct shot to me. Pelosi failed to mention the issue of abortion as she issued her personal statement after her meeting with the pope. She focused on her praise of the Church's leadership "in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming." Global warming. OK.
In August, Pelosi was criticized for her failure to define the beginning of life. She stated it was still an "issue of controversy" within the Church, yet Catholic doctrine defines life as beginning at the moment of conception. Life ends at the moment of natural death.
In a post-election zeal to imprint its own stamp of leadership, the Obama administration disclosed that President Obama reversed a Bush administration ban on funding for groups overseas providing abortion services. Nancy Pelosi was a vocal supporter of this action. The Vatican pointedly criticized this move.
Also, during the campaign season, then candidate Obama stated that as a supporter of abortion rights, he would not want a daughter of his to be "punished" with a baby if she found herself pregnant as a teenager.

Not everybody is Catholic, why must you worship the pope as if he were God? I'm a Christian and no human being is put on a pedastal, Do you know the pope has come out with a new list of sins? what the F!!!
I am not Catholic, though I did survive a Catholic all girls high school as a teenager. The point was that Pelosi was determined to meet the deadline for Congress' break so she could visit Italy. Ramming through legislation of that magnitude before anyone even read it was an abuse of power. She was slapped by Karma when he lectured her on her political doctrine and religious hypocrisy.
BTW, I'm a pro-choice Republican so the issue is not mine, anyway.
Just to note: The Pope also thinks Holocaust Deniers make great Bishops so...yea I don't think he carries the same clout Paul did when he makes moral judgements.
What is truly interesting about all this flap is the fact that Piglosi released a statement that only spoke about what SHE said to the Pope.
She met with the leader of the largest religion in the world and the only thing she could say publicly was what SHE said to HIM.
So the Vatican released their own public statement - repudiating Piglosi's commentary.
Which they have only ever done once before in the last century - when Bill Clinton tried the same trick.
And before anyone says anything, like Karen I am also a pro-choice Republican. I don't practice any particular religion, considering myself to be a spiritual being who believes in God.
I am also pro-choice... except that I believe that choice is exercised when a woman decides to have sex with a man... at that point she has exercised her choice. Any child conceived by that choice should be guarded as a precious life and have their rights protected.
I know, I know... what about rape? There is an effective "morning after" medication to prevent conception.
As for Obama and his statement that he wouldn't want his daughter PUNISHED by an unwanted baby.... does he think his own mother was PUNISHED by having him? Perhaps we are all being punished by her choice...
I am not a Catholic, but playing fast and loose with one's faith in order to garnish political gain is like walking on a tightrope between two skyscrapers in an earthquake.... Karen is right... what goes around comes around.
