President Obama recently mocked and criticized Republicans for the inability of the U.S. Senate to move forward in the debt ceiling negotiations. He made this campaign speech during what was billed as a White House press corps press conference. He claimed that Congress goes into recess too frequently and that the elected officials had some kind of nerve demanding that he, the President, get involved in the process.
Yes, Mr. President. Leaders, lead. Let me ask this question - when you look into a mirror, do you see a leader? Do you see the leader of the free world? When might we, the American taxpayer, see that person?
Maybe that person, that leader, is left on the golf course or on Martha's Vineyard or at Camp David or in Honolulu or a pub in Ireland.
Americans need our President to rise to the office to which he was elected and lead us through these trying economic times. It will take all of us, even the President. The days of handing off all the tough decisions to let Congress work out the details and play until the legislation needs to be signed are over. This lack of leadership has only made our national mess worse.
Actions speak louder than words.
