I have a suggestion for any leftover holiday greeting cards you may have after going over your list this year: How about signing them and sending them off to our recovering soldiers, as well as veterans and their families?
The American Red Cross has partnered up with Pitney Bowes to collect holiday cards. They'll distribute them to American service members, veterans and their families here in the U.S. and around the world.
The goal is one million cards collected and distributed.
Send the cards to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
On the Web site, there are some guidelines. Most important: all cards must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008.
Sign all the cards.
No letters, no personal home addresses or email information - this is not a pen pal opportunity.
Limit the cards to 25 from one person or 50 from a group or class. If larger quantities, bundle the cards and put them in a large mailing envelope. Each card doesn't need its own envelope.
Seems like very little effort to provide some much needed and well deserved thanks.

You are a true inspiration.
thanks for putting this address here..I've had about 10 emails with "send to cards to guys at Walter Reed" but I think I remember them telling people they're not equipped there to handle the onslaught of mail...so I've avoided blogging it. This is great..thanks, Karen!
